You are likely to spend a portion on TV streaming services, regardless of whether you have cable or satellite. This is because it’s your preferred method to watch movies, shows and sports live. Although monthly subscription fees can be costly, streaming is easy on platforms like YouTube. Netflix, Hulu, Disney Plus or HBO Max or a niche streaming service for kids, anime or reality TV.
More choices mean more decisions on your end. Hulu’s price has gone up. Disney will launch an ad-supported version of Disney Plus and raise prices on its other plans by $3 a month in December. Meanwhile, Netflix with ads has finally arrived at $7 per month.
Your streaming subscription budget is likely changing all the time too, depending on which services are worth your time and money. Your choices likely depend on which original shows and movies you want, how important a back catalog of older TV shows is to you, whether you need to consider kids, roommates or sports fans — and your budget. Some of these services offer cheaper options (like Peacock’s free tier), while others come essentially free as part of a bundle (like ESPN Plus in the Disney Bundle). With recent price hikes, options such as Prime Video and Starz may be worth a second look.
We’ve reviewed each of these streaming services individually, and assigned numeric ratings based on content, app design and features and overall value. Certainly, some personal preferences regarding content mix influence our decisions, so note that if you love a specific show or style of show, you may have a different favorite.
With that in mind, here’s our list.

There’s a reason why Netflix has become shorthandFor streaming in general. The movie-rental service evolved into the top-tier streaming service that’s a must-have in 2022. When bigOriginals like Stranger Things drop, they grab the attention of millions of viewers along with critical praise and awards, giving us the closest thing we have to watercooler conversations these days.
Netflix has lost some of its major back-catalog titles, including TV series favorites The Office To Peacock and Friends to HBO Max, but the streamer still offers a wide range of network shows and more original series and films than any of its competitors. Every week, new movies and shows are added to the streamer. 70 new original moviesThe Netflix platform was launched in 2021. The company doesn’t mind catering for different tastes with gaming categories and categories that cater to children, anime, and foreign languages from all over the world.
It starts at $7 per month for a basic account with ads supported and $10 per month for basic ad free. This price is right in the middle of the TV package. Standard plans cost $15.50 per month and include HD and two simultaneous streaming. For those who prefer to pay less, the new $7 ad-supported subscription offers one stream. This is still a top choice because of the variety you get.

Disney PlusThis is Netflix’s closest competitor — and it’s good reason. It’s the only place that you can stream the vast majority Disney and Pixar libraries. While The Mandalorian was its first breakout series, its slate of Marvel shows, including Loki and She-Hulk, have since drawn millions of viewers. Features such as Turning Red and Encanto won rave reviews. Plus, there’s lots more Star Wars Marvel original programming coming in the next few years.
At the current price of $8 a month, Disney Plus is still one of the least expensive ad-free streaming TV choices a great value. It is a must-have for anyone with kids or a fan any of its other titles (and who doesn’t love Baby Yoda?)).
The price of the ad free version will increase by $3 to $11 per month. Disney will also offer the ad supported version of Disney Plus at $8 per month. It will also offer additional bundles. The cheapest package is a $10-per-month plan that combines Disney Plus, Hulu, and both with ads.

HBO MaxIt is a well-designed and entertaining app that features a wide range of TV shows and movies. It includes HBO’s entire library, DC Universe titles, and your favorite shows and movies such as Friends, Rick and Morty and Lord of the Rings. Studio Ghibli film. It’s also the main destination for Warner Brothers-owned feature films. Although it’s not Disney Plus but HBO Max has a solid streaming selection for children. It also has the ability to better control ratings and manage profiles of children than other services.
It is $10 per month, which places it next to Netflix at the top end of the streaming spectrum. However, if you’d prefer an ad-free experience, it can cost up to $15 per monthly. HBO Max is currently releasing new originals and we expect that this will continue. Even though its 8.0 rating is close to Prime Video’s, HBO Max consistently drops new episodes, has a large back library, and offers smooth, user-friendly functions.

Hulu is an excellent alternative to Netflix and costs $8 per month (with ads). The channel lineup includes a large selection of familiar shows from CBS, ABC and Fox that you can watch immediately after they air (unlike Netflix). Hulu also has a growing collection of critically acclaimed original series such as Only Murders in the Building. Hulu is an excellent choice if you have $8 per month and are willing to trade a few ads for a variety of TV options. You also have the option to upgrade to a no-ads plan for $15 a monthOr add on live TV streaming for $70 a month for a full cable replacement.

Amazon Prime Video has a lot of original, ad free, high-quality shows and movies. It also boasts a large back catalog of older favorites (and B-movies(You haven’t heard about) NFL on Thursday nights. You can stream live MLB games if you are a New York Yankees Fan.
It doesn’t have the same catalogs as Netflix or Hulu and lacks the star power of Disney’s streaming platform. I also found its menus confusing because there is some paid content mixed in with the free content. Prime Video’s new redesignIt aims to reduce confusion by providing clearer labels and regular menu updates to its global customers. Prime Video is included free of charge for millions Prime subscribers. You can check out the originals here. Despite the price increase to $7 per month, Apple TV Plus stands as the lowest-priced premium, ad-free streaming service available, with high-end features like 4K resolution, HDRMobile downloads. It’s also the only one on this list that offers original content and has no back catalog of movies or shows to explore. Although it has more than 50 original, big-budget original programming movies and shows, only a handful have caught the attention of the public. Ted Lasso and Severance, while CODA won Best Picture among other Oscars. How to test streaming services
Most of the names on this list are familiar to you, but it is not comprehensive. There are many other streaming options, and hundreds of others. We kept these things in mind as we evaluated the streaming options.
This list is based on the numerical value that I assigned each streaming service in my individual review. This was determined by design (i.e. The ease of use across TV and mobile platforms, features (like 4K HDR and mobile downloads), recommendations, watchlists and number of streams, content (number and quality of originals and back catalogues), and value (price) are the factors that I assigned each streaming service in their individual reviews.
