Finally, the long-awaited Google Maps navigation feature is here Wear OS Hours. Wear OS watch owners will be able to use Google Maps from their watches without a smartphone.
A recent post about the company Wear OS help forumGoogle announced voiceless navigation in Google Maps for Wear OS. This new feature is compatible with both LTE smartwatches and Wi-Fi smartwatches. However, Wi-Fi watches must be connected directly to a Wi Fi network to use it.
We’re excited to share that you can now get Google Maps with turn on navigation right on your LTE watch*, without the need for a phone. If you have a watch* with LTE or your watch is connected to the Internet via WiFi, you can now enjoy the availability of maps on your wrist.
Navigating is as easy as opening the Maps app on your phone and entering the destination you wish to visit. Mirroring can be enabled on your phone to allow you to navigate from your phone, according the tech giant. The watch will take control if you are too far away from your phone.
These guidelines are provided by Google for Maps:
- Open Maps on your wrist
- Enter your destination using the keyboard or voice tool. To view your location, you can click on the map.
- Select the mode of transport you prefer. Here you can see your estimated travel time.
- Start your walking, biking, or car journey.
Google announced that offline navigation will be available for Wear OS in August 2022. Although it missed the release date, Google said that it will bring offline navigation to Wear OS later in the year, in August 2022.
