Microsoft 365 Basic is a boon to the low-income customers

Microsoft celebrates 10 years of Microsoft 365 with a new category, Microsoft 365 Basic. It will launch on January 30th at $1.99 per month or $19.99 annually.

Microsoft 365 Basic is designed to attract new users and add them to the Microsoft subscription model. The offerings aren’t bad. However, there is one catch. Subscribers will not have access to the desktop versions of Word and Excel, but only the web or mobile versions. Microsoft also offers 100GB cloud storage on OneDrive instead of the 1TB included with the Microsoft 365 Personal ($6.99/month) and Microsoft 365 Family ($9.99/month) plans.

Microsoft’s new Basic plan promises “peace of Mind” and includes the ability to backup photos. The Basic plan provides access to Microsoft support for Windows 11 as well as Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) applications. The free Microsoft 365 includes the web/mobile versions and 5GB cloud storage.

Microsoft stated that Microsoft 365 Basic will include ransomware recovery and password protected sharing links to OneDrive later on in 2023.

Microsoft plans to communicate better how OneDrive files are stored, in addition to the new Microsoft 365 plan. Microsoft said that this update gives a simplified overview about your storage usage across Microsoft 365. It includes OneDrive, Outlook and many other features.

Microsoft will now seperate the components of your storage allowance. This seems to be the key.
