Google is updating a File helper platformTo make it easier for children to use a variety of new parental controls, sounds, and other features.
Google Assistant had no parental controls before that. But as the company claims in the ad(Opens in new tab)And theParents should be able to monitor their children’s interactions with shared devices.
Assistive parental controls allow parents to limit the content, features, or devices that their children can access at home. You can restrict content to YouTube Kids and YouTube Music. Parents can also block access to news and podcasts. You can also define features such as calling and making phone calls that can not be made. Answers can be modified to be more appropriate for children’s age. The Google Assistant will also have a new downtime tool that allows you to set a schedule for when your kids can use it.
Other features
The introduction of the Children’s Dictionary allows for age-appropriate answers. It allows the assistant to give “simplified… answers” to children. The announcement states that the feature makes the assistant aware of the child’s speech and allows them to “understand” the question being asked. Google provides an example of a child who asks about a telescope. The Nest Hub screen gives the child a basic introduction.

Google claims that the sounds were created with input from parents and children to reflect a variety dialects. They speak in a slower, more expressive way than their counterparts. Over the next few weeks, all US users will have access to the updated version. It is not yet known if there will be a global launch. Google claims that parental controls will be integrated into the Assistant, Family Link, and Home apps on iOS and Android. The announcement doesn’t state if Four Voices and Kids Dictionary will also be available on those apps.
