You never know what you might get with the Netflix advertising tier

Clicking on something on the Netflix ads layer can be a gamble: you never know how much advertising you might need to see.

I spent some time fiddling on Thursday with a new level account. While I had a good experience with Netflix, what surprised me the most was the unpredictable amount of ads I should be watching.

Netflix claims that you can expect to see a file. Average 4 to 5 minutes of advertisements per hour.This is about my experience, but it’s not what you would expect. WhenAdvertisements may appear. It’s not like broadcast television where you know exactly when and how often you need to watch ads before the show returns. Here are some of these differences that I tested:

The ads are very standard online video ads. With my new account, I received advertisements for cars, hotels and cruises. Netflix claims that the ads last between 15 and 30 seconds, which is consistent with my experience. You can pause the ads but not skip them. Netflix, however, calculates the duration in the upper right corner of your screen.

One of the biggest drawbacks to the ad layer’s existence is the inability to view certain things. These shows and movies will be marked in the upper right corner with a small red padlock. It is impossible to watch the show if you don’t see it.

Could you ClickLock things in. Netflix will take you to a new screen on the web that allows you to instantly upgrade to a more expensive category and have access to all features. Netflix suggests that you select an ad-free plan on iOS but doesn’t direct you anywhere, probably due to Apple’s restrictive App store rules.

Netflix was pointingIt’s not surprising that some things won’t become available at the Ads level due to licensing issues. I found a few surprises in my brief time with the Ads Layer.

Stimulated developmentThe original series of aired first on Fox. It has been renewed on Netflix. Four of the 10 top films in America today (including the best) are available to stream. The wickedThe red lock is yours. I found a lot of locks in my search results for “classic films” like SkyfallAnd the 28 daysAnd the imitation game. You can’t know if something is unavailable until you look for it. This is why you should choose the ads layer.

Netflix Basic with Ads is exactly as you expected: It’s Netflix with ads. If you can live without ads and are okay with the tradeoffs of 720p video quality, it might be worth spending a little more on the cheaper version. Since I see no ads, I will stick to the no ads option. Enough ads already online.
