Report says that Apple has rescinded AirDrop in China following protests.

Apple has added new restrictions to AirDrop use Iphone According to Bloomberg report Thursday.

The company’s wireless file-sharing feature is now limited to receiving files from “everyone” and people stored in the telephonebook. This applies to files that are not sent from contacts. The report said that the iPhone will return to receiving files only from contacts after the 10-minute time limit expires. There was no time limit previously.

AirDrop restrictions have been added to the iOS software update for iPhone. 16.1.1This was released to the public on Wednesday. The notes section of this site has not yet been updated with information about the changes. iOS 16.1.1This is where Apple typically notifies users of software updates or fixes.

Apple released iOS 16.1.1 on Wednesday. It doesn’t mention the new AirDrop time limit.

Apple’s decision comes after protesters in China used AirDrop to quickly send files and photos over Bluetooth to share their protest materials with the public. China’s long-standing “novirus” policy, along with other measures, has sparked new online protests. During the 2019 Hong Kong pro-democracy demonstrations, protesters used AirDrop as a means to share their gadgets with the general public.

Bloomberg reported that Apple told Bloomberg that the feature would be available worldwide next year.
