It appears that Elon Musk has disabled Twitter SMS2FA

Update, November 14, 2022 at 06:25 PM ET This service appears to be returning slowly. In the last hour, there was Twitter ReportsSMS 2FA can be used again by users who were unable to use it. We also tried setting up SMS 2FA again, and it worked. There are still many reports of people having problems and others who have encountered a block on how many SMS they could send (even though none have been sent). This causes a protocol to stop you from requesting new codes for 24 hours. It effectively locks your account.

It is still a good idea for your 2FA method to be changed from SMS to another, or at the very least to add another 2FA layer.

It doesn’t matter if it is because check marksAdvertisers, gray checkmarks, or exit or Any of the other problemsThe site is aware that the word “Twitter”, although it has been mentioned, has not appeared in the news cycle.

Today’s news may be the most bizarre yet. Musk tweetedHe called them “bloatware” and shut down Twitter’s microservices. He claims that Twitter only requires less than 20% to function. However, Twitter SMS2FA appears to be part those microservices. This could be a problem.

Two-factor authentication via SMS (2FA), is when a web application sends you a message with a unique passcode and a one-time passcode to verify your identity. Usually, you will need to provide your phone number when you register. A temporary six-digit code will be sent to your phone number when you log in. It adds an extra layer to security to your username/password combination.

Musk has shut down microservices and it seems that it has also stopped Twitter SMS 2FA. In these circumstances, you can turn on SMS 2FA and log off from your Twitter account. You will not be allowed to log in again. Technically, the two factor authentication isn’t broken. However, you won’t receive the text message with your unique code. The service that sends the message has been disabled, so it isn’t actually sending.

To be clear, if you use other forms of two-factor authentication (2FA) for Twitter — including authenticator apps — you’ll be fine. This applies only to SMS users who use it as their 2FA service.

Twitter SMS 2FA: Better to disable it

To prevent your account from being locked out of Twitter, ensure that this service is disabled:
