TechCrunch spoke with Brodnock & Lenhard about their book and how it will impact the industry.

This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity.

TK: How did your relationship come about? And why did you decide that you would write this book?

JL: I have been doing more research on equity, diversity, and inclusion in the venture capital world. Erica was one person I spoke to after I did a few pieces for Crunchbase. It turned out that there was an even larger project that we felt we had to tackle immediately.

EBB: I believe the first piece that we wrote together literally leapt us onto the page. It was easy. He wanted to explore the possibility of writing this book and made a proposal. I quickly took over the task and began adding bits. He then said, “You’re right, let’s take a look at the past of the project, take a look at where it’s going, and where we’ve been.”

Personally, I have always had bold ideas and I want to change the system. I want to destroy the system. [Johannes has]It opened doors for us and allowed us to have the opportunity to speak with some of the most senior people in the venture capital industry. It was an absolute pleasure to write this book.
