VW teases the second generation ID.3 EV, with design and tech enhancements

Volkswagen’s electric vehicle lineup is now mature enough that it’s introducing second-generation models — and the company seems to be taking some of the criticism seriously. Volkswagen has it. teasedRedesign ID.3This addresses the concerns about the original version during a technology upgrade. The compact electric car features a mature design with a sharper exterior, and better-quality materials inside. Importantly, it’s also more practical—there’s a larger 12-inch infotainment screen, two cup holders on the center console and the luggage compartment floor is removable.

Technology could be the main focus. Volkswagen claims that the new ID.3 will be built on the company’s “newest software platform”, which improves sometimes slow performance and allows for over-the air updates. It will include features such as easier charging of pre-paid electric vehicles, adaptive lanes guidance, and parking aids.

The revamped VW ID.3 won’t be revealed until spring. Pre-orders placed now won’t arrive until the fourth quarter 2023 because of “high order volumes.” However, it retains the current starting price of €43,995 (about $43,600) for the Life trim.
