The Asus Prime X670-P includes AM5’s X670 chipset. The standard X670E has one PCIe Gen5 slot, whereas the “Extreme”, X670E has two. Everything else is Gen 4 and lower.

The same AMD Ryzen 7000 series CPUs can still be used, including the Ryzen 9 7950X. The iGPU comes standard with all new CPUs and can be used for diagnostics without a discrete GPU.

The unboxing experience was straightforward and standard for the $299 MSRP. There are some accessories like SATA cables included, but nothing that is comparable to premium motherboards. (No M.2 PCIe or other trinkets.

This board does not support Wi-Fi antennas. (For this, you will need the X670-P WiFi.

Asus Prime X670-P: features

How does the price compare to the features? It’s a great mix for gamers and content creators, without breaking the bank.

First, support for DDR5 or Ryzen 7000 CPUs will be available. However, you won’t be capable of pushing your overclocking limits in the same way as you would with something like Asus X670E Hero we reviewedIt will work for most users.

You’re missing Wi-Fi here, but a Wi-Fi version is available—we’d prefer there to be just one to limit consumer confusion. (Wi-Fi should now come standard at this level of price.

As mentioned previously, the X670 provides access to a PCIe Gen 5 slots, which can be used for extremely fast M.2 storage. It has three M.2 slots total, which is enough to support most gaming devices and workstations. As you will find on the more expensive options, power users may need four or more M.2 slot. SATA ports are also excellent here. Six total, which is more than the B650’s, we’ve seen. The Q-Latch can be found here in the M.2 slots. This allows for easy installation and removal.

The GPU will be able to use PCIe Gen 4 16x, which should be sufficient since the RTX 4090 only Gen 4.

The lower M.2 slots aren’t equipped with heatsinks so you’ll need to make your own. We would like to see the silver design extended to these heatsinks, both functionally and visually.

There are 10 USB ports available. It doesn’t have USB4 at this price, but it does have Thunderbolt 4 headers that you can expand using a supported accessory. You’ll also get a PS/2 port—an old feature that’s still sometimes used in older or niche use cases.

DisplayPort and HDMI outputs can be used in conjunction with the iGPU For Ryzen 7000 GPUs if you need a quick non GPU diagnostic session.

The I/O is completed by three Realtek 7.1 audio connections. Although it isn’t as sophisticated as the codecs available on ROG motherboards or Strix, it provides good sound quality.

The Asus Prime X670-P is a large display with a lot silver-centric design elements and black lettering. It is a simple display with monochrome and attractive design. This display will look great on all builds, from gaming PCs and workstations.

It’s certainly not as extravagant as higher-end motherboards. The motherboard is finished in a dark color below the top PCIe slots. The battery is now visible and not hidden behind a difficult-to-reach cover. Although the design is nice and continues throughout the motherboard, we feel it looks a little incomplete and partially off. (Also, heatsinks are not available for the M.2 slots.

There’s no back panel, but the back matches the character of the front—although you’ll never see it after the design is done. Overall, this design is very minimalist and practical. It’s also easily identifiable as part the Prime series that Asus has been producing for years.

Asus Prime X670-P: Performance Software and BIOS

A Ryzen 9 7950X can handle this job with a VRM value of 12 + 2 DrMos delivering 60 amps and a six-layer PCB. For this type of motherboard, it is best to pair it up with other CPUs in that lineup, such as Ryzen 7 7700X. Because it is not intended for hardcore overclockers, it works best at factory and stock settings.

The Asus BIOS is a great tool for tweaking your system. You will be able adjust the CPU to your liking by setting Eco modes and DDR5 Expo profiles. You can also choose between “Intelligent” or Ai overclocking options, which allows for simpler performance improvements without NASA approval.

Since the X670 chipet is still new, we recommend frequent and early BIOS updates. Even boards that appear stable, there are still issues that can be addressed and fixed. Asus makes it easy for you to update your BIOS. They even include BIOS Flashback if necessary to recover from system problems. While long boot times can be an issue with initial builds, they are not uncommon for this motherboard.

The Asus Armory Crate comes as a “all-in” software package. It allows you to set Aura Sync RGB profiles of all connected components at the touch of a single button. You can also set it in dark mode for those who are not a fan of RGB.

You can set the fan curves of the six PWM fan heads, or let Ai adjust them for you. It will also check for updates to drivers and utility downloads from Asus. It’s the best motherboard software we’ve ever seen from any manufacturer, and it has a nicer look than most.

The Asus Prime X670-P motherboard offers a well-balanced design and a price tag of less than $300. Ryzen 7000 CPUs have been discounted at retailers and it could be the perfect combination for users who are looking for a mid-range Ryzen 7700 CPU.

Gamers will be able to benefit from the high performance and RGB connectors. The availability of USB ports and storage options will please content creators. Users who are more demanding will be unable to access faster USB options and possibly more PCIe Gen5 lanes.

We would like to see a Wi Fi standard without the need to have a separate Wi Fi version. The built-in I/O covers would be welcome. The heatsink will also benefit the M.2 NVMe slot that is lower than usual, both functionally as well as aesthetically.
