LG’s new optical zoom sensor is designed to eliminate the smartphone camera bump

TL; DR

  • LG Innotek announced a new camera module which will allow for 4-9x zoom.
  • LG claims the optical zoom sensor size should be small enough that it does not cause a camera bump on smartphones.
  • Innotek and Qualcomm partner to accelerate sensor adoption

Are you tired seeing camera bumps on phones? It seems, LGLG Innotek announced a new camera system that it believes could eliminate camera bumps.

LG Innotek continues to be a major supplier mobile camera modules despite having stopped making phones. Its latest project is an optical zoom sensor that can move between 2 points.

The LG Camera Module for Optical Zoom Optical Zoom is a small component that LG calls a smartphone. It incorporates telescopic functions that are most commonly used in professional cameras, such as a DSLR and mirrorless cameras.

While optical zoom isn’t necessarily new — both the Pixel 7 Pro and Galaxy S22 Ultra have telephoto lenses — the difference is that it offers 4 to 9 times zoom. You can cycle between 4x-9x with traditional cameras, but it is not something you see often on smartphones.

The size of this sensor is another thing that makes it different. LG claims it has reduced the thickness to address the problem with smartphone camera bumps. This was done by changing the unit’s structure and creating a new lens.

LG also announced its partnership with Qualcomm to improve the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 operating system. The company hopes to increase the adoption of this sensor by global smartphone makers.

LG will not only be exhibiting the Telephoto Zoom optical camera module at CES in January but also announced a new product. gaming screenRecord-breaking 240Hz refresh rate
