With its new 2023 TV lineup, LG is throwing those traditional options out the window—if you’re willing to try—and has come up with a new way to customize your picture preferences. Instead of presenting you with a handful of options to choose from, the Selfie Wizard will show you a series of photos. You can choose the best photos from each screen.
After you have done this six times, the TV will create a preset based upon your choices. It considers your preference for brightness, color and contrast. LG claims that Image Wizard has been created using a lot AI deep learning. It has used millions of images to collect the data. You can click apply to see portrait mode in action.
LG will continue to offer tried and true picture settings as well as deeper calibration options. Your custom picture mode will be available alongside the ones found in the Settings menu of 2023 LG TVs. So you can quickly switch between them all and compare the differences. LG told me that while you can only create one customized picture mode that applies to all TVs, LG is working on allowing each user to create their own.
I will not be able to evaluate the new LG TVs until I am able to fully test them. It’s still interesting to see a different approach to the long-term and more rigorous approach. It might be considered sacrilegious by home theater enthusiasts. If you are looking for standard reference white balance or color, this is not the right option. The feature is completely optional. It’s a novel idea. It’s worth a try and seeing what happens.
