Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst, stated that Apple would like to replace the physical buttons on its iPhones with solid-state buttons in October 2022. In a series tweets, Ko reiterated this prediction on Wednesday.
My latest survey suggests that the iPhone 15 high-end models will feature solid state buttons and be equipped with additional Taptic Engines in order to simulate the force feedback feeling of physical buttons.
Cirrus Logic is the main winner in the switch to solid-state buttons on the high end 2H23 iPhone 15 models.
Cirrus Logic, the exclusive Taptic Engine supplier of control circuits for solid-state buttons will greatly benefit from this new design. If the users like this design, it could be used in other high-end product lines.
Kuo’s predictions suggest that Apple can use a iPhone 15 ProTo test users’ reactions to the volume and solid state power buttons. Taptic Engine simulates the click of a physical button. This would make the power- and volume buttons very similar to the solid state button Apple introduced in its iPhone 7.
Kuo also claims that, if the change is popular, Apple could add solid-state buttons on more of its devices.
