Running flops for 2022
bubble
Let’s start by discussing one of the biggest streaming failures of the year. The Bubble could be considered one of Netflix’s worst movies. Cool: 21% Rotten tomatoesIt’s been an unmitigated disaster since the operator took over, despite the direction and cast of Judd Apatow. The film was made in the early days COVID-19 when actors from a blockbuster shot a sequel while being quarantined at a hotel. They mainly used green screen technology and motion captured. Although the premise sounds great, the jokes and pandemic gags seem far from reality.
Netflix
Netflix is the world’s most popular streaming service with more than 200 million subscribers. Netflix offers thousands of TV shows and movies to binge-watch, with an ever-growing number of original series like Stranger Things, The Witcher, Bridgerton, among others.
I time
Netflix occupies a lot space on this list. This is understandable since they release a lot each year. They can’t all be successful. The stay-at home dad uses his weekend to reconnect with an old friend and take time for me. The two of them come up with some wild shenanigans together that threaten to turn his world upside down. It currently stands at 6%. Rotten tomatoes. Ouch!
Deep water
Deep Water is not fully functional, but it has much to be appreciated. It is one those bombshells that is quite entertaining to watch, and probably the best movie in 2022, if such an award can be given to any movie. This thriller is from Adrian Lyne, master of erotic thrillers. It follows a man who suspects his wife of foul play when her lovers start disappearing. It stars Ana de Armas and Ben Affleck. It’s dark and sloppy in all ways you would expect an erotic thriller, despite its poor showing at critics.
Hulu
Hulu offers thousands of TV shows and movies to stream. It also has original movies such as The Handmaid’s Tale. Upgrade to Hulu Plus Live TV for live channels, including local stations.
Blond
The semi-biographical Marilyn Monroe movie was controversial long before it premiered on Netflix. The movie, which is based on Joyce Carol Oates’s novel of the same title, takes major liberties in the life of the pop icon. While many found the film exploitative and Ana de Armas’s performance as the star was appreciated, they were not able to fault it. It doesn’t matter whether a film that takes creative liberty is justified or exploitative; it fails overall. It aims high but misses its target. Although it was praised by some, others were less enthusiastic.
fire starter
Technically, Firestarter doesn’t have a hybrid version. Peacock was released the same day. Unfortunately, the ’80s remake, which was based on a Stephen King novel by the same name, failed to connect with audiences or critics. The story of a young girl whose mind can set fire to things was one the biggest streaming events in 2022. Firestarter, despite its initial launch on Peacock is now available on Prime Video.
Amazon Prime Video
Amazon Prime Video offers access to thousands TV shows and movies that can be streamed online. This includes original movies and shows like The Boys and The Tomorrow War. You can also sign-up for other premium services in Amazon Prime Video.
Marmaduke
Enjoy 0% Discount Rotten tomatoesMarmaduke by Netflix may be the biggest streaming failure of 2022. The movie, which was based on the comic strip of that name, was strangely lacking humor and many critics pointed out the horrible animation.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
2022 was a significant year for legacies, such as Top Gun: Maverick. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was a notable exception. The film overwrites all previous sequels and sees a new group young men trespassing onto Leatherface’s territory. Leatherface, a chainsaw-wielding murderer, enters attack mode. The film fails to capitalize upon the brilliance and charm of the original with a dull central story wrapped up in a confusing moral message.
Pinocchio
Not to be mistaken with Guillermo del Toro’s Netflix hit Pinocchio, which was one of the top movies of 2022. Disney Plus’ live action Pinocchio was dead upon its arrival. Despite Tom Hanks’ iconic role as Geppetto the original streaming series was not released theatrically. The movie was visually stunning, but critics dismissed it as a rehashing of a beloved classic.
Disney Plus
Disney Plus offers thousands upon thousands of TV episodes, movies, and exclusive TV series and movies.
Halloween is over
Another theatrical release that was streamed on Peacock in the same day, the final chapter of the new Halloween Trilogy certainly had its supporters. It was disappointing and failed to live up the promises of 2018’s Halloween. Halloween Ends was a disappointing conclusion to the uneven reboot of the franchise. It had a weak story and strange character beats.
peacock
Peacock streaming service from NBCUniversal has tons of great TV shows and movies that you can stream on demand. It also offers live news and sports. The best part is that you can stream a lot of its content free of cost, or pay $4.99 per monthly for a paid subscription.
Gray man
The Russo Brothers appeared to have a fight on their hands with this spy thriller. It was certain to be a success with a stellar cast and hilarious cast. He wage a one-on-one battle with his former employers when the agency burns black assets during CIA operations. Instead of the high-octane popcorn movie that is promised, we get a dull action with choppy set parts and every cliche rehashed and stripped of all its fun. Mixed reviews were negative. Even the best were disappointed. Bad reviews don’t always mean failure. Netflix seems to have declared The Gray Man a success regardless of what metrics you use. They have also approved an entire Gray Man streaming universe with future sequels and spinoffs already in development.
The greatest drink of all time
Apple TV Plus might have been gaining self-esteem since winning the Academy Award for Best Picture with CODA last year. The Greatest Beer Run Ever, directed and produced by Peter Farley (2019 Best Picture winner). Prepare. A New Yorker jumps at the chance to help the Vietnam War effort in 1967. He bought beer for his friends in the foreign country. He flies to war zones with a few cans of PBR and works to find friends from his neighborhood. This light-hearted approach to war does not strike the right chords and instead presents a deafeningly emotive snoozing experience.
Apple TV Plus
Since its launch in 2019, Apple TV Plus quickly became a major player in streaming. Its original programming includes Ted Lasso’s Morning Show, Foundation and For All Mankind. There are also movies like The Banker, Greyhound and Palmer.
The man from Toronto
Another Netflix failure, the guy in Toronto came and went softly. What could have been a Hitchcockian-mistaken comedy-thriller instead lacked both laughs and excitement despite a very stacked cast and a fun premise about a man who accidentally teams up with a killer after mixing up an Airbnb.
