Apple gave the 2022 iPad an overhaul to differentiate it from other basic tablets and to bring its design closer to the iPad Air/IPad Pro. The tech giant has moved its Touch ID button to the lock button, and removed the home button. It has slimmer bezels, a larger screen, and the front-facing camera is now located at its landscape borders. Another major change is the addition of a USB C charging port to the device, instead of a Lightning connector like previous models.

The A14 Bionic chip powers the tablet. While it is a slight upgrade to the A13, it does improve performance. We also found that the battery life of the tablet was at or above the 10-hour mark that Apple gives for each iPad. It lasted 11 hours 45 minutes when we used the tablet to play movies from the iTunes Store.

Although it’s not clear when tablets will be back at retail prices, this is a great chance to get one for the holiday season.
